The 1989 Class of the School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) has donated five (5) 58 inches Smart-Digital Smart Televisions valued at Gh¢23,500.00 to support the academic activities of the SMD on Tuesday, 19th April, 2022.
The Class of 1989 was represented by Professor Ben Eghan, Professor Osei Akoto and Dr. Ernest Osei Bonsu, Head of the Oncology Department - Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
In his remarks, Professor Ben Eghan revealed that the donation was made in response to the Dean of SMD's request for assistance in procuring monitors to improve teaching and learning in the School. He further seized the opportunity to appeal to the Management to create a platform that would connect and involve them as alumni in the School’s activities.
Professor Daniel Ansong, Dean of the SMD, expressed his gratitude to the year group for their thoughtful donation. He explained that because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the school transitioned to audio-visual learning, thus, the televisions donated would enhance teaching and learning with their smart capabilities. He also appealed to other alumni groups to assist in resourcing the School.
Professor Joslin Alexei Dogbe, the Chairman of the SMD Alumni committee praised the timely intervention of the Class. He expressed his satisfaction and excitement with the benefactors. ‘We are very happy to receive this donation at this time when we have been tasked to find innovative ways to offer practical lessons to the students, hence, these monitors will be of great assistance to the School, Students can watch practical sessions on these screens.’
